THE CAST

    Lisa Armetta: Narrator
Lisa teaches foreign languages by day and sings by night.
This native Chicagoan found an instant attraction to BLOC when she blew into Brussels in 1995, and has since plunged into its many activities both on-stage and behind the scenes. Happiest belting out Broadway numbers, she also enjoys performing traditional operettas, choral works and close-harmony music.

    Andrew Pimm: Joseph
Andrew was born in Croydon, England and came to Belgium in 1994. Whilst vocal training with soprano Margaret Lysak for several years, Andrew regularly featured as a principal with BLOC in shows such as The Pirates of Penzance, La Vie Parisienne, Oklahoma, HMS Pinafore, The Gypsy Princess, Kismet and most recently as Marco Palmieri in The Gondoliers. With the A.T.C he appeared in Annie Get Your Gun and also played comic baddies in two pantos for the E.C.C culminating in his most devastating and hilarious performance to date as Dracula in the Dracula Spectacular. On a more serious note, Andrew has appeared as a soloist in works by Bach, Handel, Haydn and Mozart under the baton of Pam Clements CBE and took part in the Belgian premiere of Weill's Street Scene. In 'real life' Andrew is married to the infinitely more talented mezzo Jane McBride and they have two children, David and baby Lucy.

Ben George: The Pharaoh
Ben is from Atlanta, Georgia and has thoroughly enjoyed his 2.5 year stay in Brussels, especially when doing a show with BLOC. He started performing in Richmond, Virginia and even spent a year studying theatre at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. He most recently performed the roles of Sky Masterson and Frank-n-Furter in 'BLOC on Broadway.'

THE 11 BROTHERS

    Peter De Schepper: Naphtali
Peter is from Ghent. He started singing as a chorister when he was 6 years old and never stopped. He sang in different choirs before studying music in the Ghent, Brussels and St. Pieters Woluwe (Stokkel) academies where he obtained a certificate in music theory, singing, vocal ensemble and a first prize in lyrical art (opera class). Peter joined BLOC in 2000 for The Gipsy Princess and since then took part in (almost) every show playing a wide range of parts such as the Counsel for the Defence in Trial by Jury, Bangleman in Kismet, Romboïdal in L'Isle de Tulipatan, Francesco in The Gondoliers, King Arthur in Bloc on Broadway and of course in the choir - first Tenors - in other shows. Also a member of Hot Air he loves to sing 'close harmony' and madrigals, not forgetting the ‘classics’. Peter is the social secretary of BLOC and at parties he does his best as DJ.

    Andrew Fisk: Dan
An englishman by birth, Andrew has been living in Brussels since 1988. Married with three children, he gets to perform on stage approximately once a decade, and was last seen as "Cable" in the American Theatre Company's production of South Pacific in 1992, where he managed to sing, act a bit, and avoid all the dancing. Unfortunately, this time, he hasn't

    John Hall: Judah
John
has been ‘on-stage’, on and off, since the age of 9. His first show being a church production of Joseph’s Amazing Technicolour dreamcoat and it has been his dream to perform in the full show ever since: Dream’s do come true! John has appeared in amateur dramatic groups in the UK, playing a range of serious and humorous roles. John can often be seen dressed up in bizarre costumes having recently appeared as: a giant blue songbook, a Clouseauesque detective, a Hawaiian native (complete with grass skirt and coconut bra), Shakespeare/Polonius/Claudius (15 minute Hamlet) and he also starred as one of the Ugly Sisters in the 2004 British School of Brussels (BSB) Pantomime ‘Cinderella’. The dress and fishnet stockings for the BLOC on Broadway 2 ‘Rocky Horror picture show’ segment were deemed normal attire. In parallel with ‘Jospeh’, John is currently in rehearsals for the 2005 BSB pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ where he is playing the giant..

Charles King: Isachar.
Charles has been singing in early music choirs since he arrived in Brussels in 1990, but also enjoys the exuberance and camaraderie of BLOC musicals. Having shone in Kismet (fifteenth from the left, back row, middle scene), he now feels ready to push his coarse acting skills to the limit. Charles particularly enjoys doing funny dances, wearing a wig and working with camels.

    Nick Lockett: Levi
Nick's musical activities are usually confined to singing with the Brussels Choral Society and has performed with them in France and the Netherlands as well as at the Albert Hall in London. He has previously taken part in a production of "Joseph ...." in 1986 in Shepparton, Australia and auditioned for this show because he had "so much fun the first time!" The last musical Nick took part in in Brussels was as a member of the chorus in "Annie Get Your Gun" with the ATC in 1999.

    Matthew Lopez: Gad
Matthew has performed most of his theatre work in California, USA. He has played a number of major roles including Bernardo – West Side Story, Genie of the lamp – Aladdin and Prince Charming – Cinderella. He arrived in Brussels in 1999 but has only recently joined BLOC where he read the part of Huckleberry Finn in the premier of the David Miller musical Tom Sawye
r.

    Peter Mountain: Reuben
Peter has been involved with BLOC both on and off the stage since arriving in Brussels in 1987. He usually tries to corner the market in old cranky parts such as the Carpenter’s Mate in HMS Pinafore and Old Man Carnes in Oklahoma. Peter continues to exploit this particular niche as the oldest and grumpiest brother in Joseph. He also enjoys singing with the Hot Air choir and particularly likes singing bass in barbershop groups.

Dinidh O'Brien: Benjamin
Dinidh originally from Oxford, England, has been living in Brussels for 9 years. Playing Joseph’s youngest brother Benjamin, is his debut in the performing world, however he has become extremely enthusiastic about singing and dancing through this production. He is in his final year at the European School of Brussels of Woluwe, where he takes part in the school choir.

Richard Wells: Simeon
A professional voice-over and presenter, Richard has performed and directed plays on the Brussels stage for more than 25 years. This is, however, his first time in a musical.

    David Young: Zebulun
David comes originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but has lived in Europe for nearly 13 years; 9 of them in Brussels. By day, he is Director of Client Services for FCB Global HealthCare – an international pharmaceutical branding agency. He is a relative newcomer to the theatre scene in Brussels, despite having had moderate exposure as a child to playing violin, and singing and dancing in school productions. Joseph is only his second performance in Brussels, preceded by Annie Get Your Gun in 1999.

Alec Burnside – Mr. Potiphar and one of the gods.
An early devotee of Joseph, Alec saw the original 1972 production at London’s Young Vic, moving to Brussels in 1989 in preparation for the BLOC auditions. To all appearances carrying on a career in European law, he has worked assiduously in the interim to gain the body mass required for the part of Potiphar, through an intensive programme of visits to Brussels restaurants. His wife and three children having failed to restrain his theatrical urges, his son Jordan has also signed up for tonight’s cast so as to keep an eye on Dad, from a safe distance in the children’s chorus. Alec doubles tonight as a God in the Pharoah scenes, his principal qualification being that he moves in mysterious ways.

Marta Vassileva-Hadjieva: Mrs. Potiphar, Goddess, Egyptian
and Programme Coordinator’s Assistant

Marta has always been inspired by music. She has been singing in a choir since ever and in a rock band from time to time. Her last appearance in a musical was when she was 8 as ballerina in Pinocchio. Marta is coming from sunny Bulgaria and she is finishing her studies in Marketing & Advertising in SBS this year. She says she is utterly delighted to take part in this celebration of music, words and colour and to meet all those great people from BLOC.
