To the chorus of Beauty and the Beast – here are 4 audio files to help with your home practising – they consist of the piano accompaniment and the chorus part highlighted as clarinet for women and oboe for men – tracks for individual parts were not practical because the chorus rarely sings continuously, and there are sometimes long gaps between chorus entries – these files are more for you to familiarize yourself with when to sing and less about what to sing, although frequent listening should certainly help with harmonies as well as melodies.
We have eliminated from your scores a few vocal lines that over the course of rehearsals have proven too difficult to learn in the short time we have before the May show – fuller explanations will be given in rehearsals, so suffice it to say that if you hear the clarinet/oboe parts on the audio files, you should sing what you hear – sometimes we have eliminated parts entirely, and sometimes they have been simplified to unison. If any adventurous and musically knowledgeable chorus members would like to teach themselves the harder parts, we will keep them in if the sound is good, but they will not be taught during rehearsals.
These files were played and recorded on a keyboard by Elizabeth, and are not 100% perfect, but are perfectly adequate for learning purposes. She hopes that the time spent on recording will be rewarded by the improved sound of the chorus, and encourages you all to listen to and sing along with them regularly. Rehearsals are very tight, time-wise, and the directors want to allow as much time as possible for staging, so homework is essential for every chorus member.
